McKenzie River OR
For Fathers Day this year, we all floated down the Mckenzie River just outside of Jasper, Oregon. It was a quick float, only a few milres, that took most the afternoon in a fun lazy sort of way. At one point we stop at a nice rocky beach to strech our legs out and try our luck with a few casts with our fishing poles. The only think I cought was a good time!
We went up to the Leaburg Reservoir for a lazy afternoon with Brittanys family. It was nice to get away and just relax for a few hours in the sun. At one point we all got on the raft and paddled around for over an hour. It was a nice day.
I grew up floating down the rivers of Oregon, too many trips to count. I've made many floats myself alongside a group of friends and family. But I haven't been out on a boat in over a year and haven't rowed one in three, and I've never been out solo. Well that all changed today. We set out for a simple 5-mile float through the reasonably calm water.
We made plans to head out a few weeks before our trip, but in the meantime, the forest fires kicked up. We decided to still go out despite the smoke; I double checked the fire maps to make sure we were clear from any danger. The smoke made the river quite eerie, it felt more like a thick fog or mist.
