I wanted to take a quick break after work and go for a hike. The intention was to transition away from work and into my personal time. Nothing particularly crazy had happened that day, but I was inspired by a series of conversations with a college. She was talking about the importance of transitioning your time from one thing to another and being intentional about not letting residual energy linger. I would like to do this more often, but you have to start somewhere. I decided to hit up the favorite local hike, but I was foolish and didn't check the weather report. Though I was dry hiking up, I didn't remain that way for long.
Spencer's Butte OR
Little Adventures : Feeding Squirrels
The weather was looking good, so Ridley and I made our way to Spencer's Butte for a little adventure. The trail is little over a mile, and I was quite impressed how far Ridley made it on his own when you also consider elevation. But his small legs can only hold out for so long; then it's up onto my shoulders for the rest of the way up.
Once we mad it to the top, we set up a little area to eat our snacks and get some water. That's when the squirrels came out. It's evident they know what they are doing when it comes to getting food from people. I know I probably shouldn't feed the squirrels, but Ridley thought it was so fun to share a few snacks with them regardless. He would have given them his whole lunch if I didn't stop him.

No Sun for the Sunrise
Thought I would wake up early and see a fantastic sunrise from the top of Spencer's Butte, but good intentions don't always get you what you want. An excellent lesson to plan and check the weather report, but it was good to get out into some fresh air.

Birkenstocks Make for Horrible Hiking Shoes
I finally decided to pull the trigger on getting a real pair of Birkenstocks. For years I've wanted a real pair, and the Walmart knockoffs aren't cutting it. I waited to get them for a trip back home. I decided that the to mile hike to the top of Spencer's Butte would be perfect for breaking them in... horrible decision. It's not that my feet weren't comfortable, it was that the top leather was still so stiff I gave myself gnarly blisters on the tops of my feet.
